April Fool’s Day brought the New Generation Tour to the Riviera Theater in Chicago. With a star studded lineup on the bill, the grandiose theater was filled up quickly after doors opened. Popular label Quality Control took control of Uptown for a night, with new signee 42 Dugg opening up the action with some talent. Next up from their roster was Atlanta-native Marlo who showcased some of his hard-hitting trap songs. He had a really great confidence to his performance and he’s got some really great music out. Next came the highly anticipated Blueface. Decked out with a clean fit and a Gucci backpack, he opened up with “Studio”. He danced and rapped through his short discography with a smile on his face, loving the energy from the large Riviera crowd. Blueface put on a fantastic set from start to finish. Fans were dancing and singing along word for word on hits such as “Thotiana” and “Bleedin’”. Next up was Miami native, City Girls. They were unfortunately short handed, with ½ of the group unable to perform on tour. No worries though, Yung Miami, accompanied by two backup dancers, killed a set performing songs off their latest effort, “Girl Code”, as well as some hits off their older projects. The crowd loved the energetic performance and it got everyone well prepared for the main act of the night, Lil Baby. The headliner came out to a really amazing light show with a team of backup dancers. Playing older hits as well as tracks from “Street Gossip”, his latest effort, Baby was obviously enjoying his performance while being a very confident and strong presence on-stage. It was a fantastic night full of some great young artists that have just began to pop on the scene. We’re most definitely looking forward to see more from Quality Control.
