Returning for their second night in a row, we had the pleasure of catching Judah & the Lion at the Pageant in St. Louis, MO. Opening up with the title track from their latest album Pep Talks, Judah & the Lion’s set was filled with high energy from the beginning. Despite it being night two, and St. Louis being a relatively smaller city, the venue was still at near capacity: the GA crowd showed up, regardless of it being a Wednesday night.
While most of the songs on the setlist were off Judah & the Lion’s newest record, Pep Talks, there were still a couple of fan favorites sprinkled in. Over the years, Judah & the Lion have a built a loyal fanbase, and with the addition of the painfully relatable Pep Talks, it is clear they’re only gaining traction from here. Their sound centering on an eclectic mix of folk and pop, the high energy of songs like “Quarter Life Crisis” and “Why Did You Run,” really make for an unmissable live show. Truthfully, we’ve never seen such an energized crowd with such a wide age range, from little kids to adults in their 20’s and 30’s.
Sometimes, it feels like there’s a disconnect between artists and their fanbase, or even between artists and reality. This, however, was not the case with Judah & the Lion, who seemed genuinely present and engaged with the crowd. This included taking a moment to touch on not taking themselves too seriously as they introduced their appropriately titled song, “Goofballerz.” It’s things like Judah & the Lion’s unique sound and personability that keeps bringing people back. Genuinely, it’s very refreshing to see such intentionality in not only the process of creating the music but engaging in it and experiencing it with their fans. Overall, the Pep Talks World Tour is definitely one to catch if you have the chance.
