She might not be America’s sweetheart, but we love her anyways. As one of 2018’s “December to Remember” headliners, Elle King brought her rocking live show to Portland’s historic Crystal Ballroom on Wednesday night. After releasing her debut album Love Stuff in 2015, King achieved a top 10 hit with the mega-successful “Ex’s and Oh’s”, which was nominated for two Grammys and became arguably the largest rock crossover hit of the year. Her sophomore album, Shake the Spirit, saw King doubling down on the rock sensibilities of her debut, with even more edge and drama.
With Wednesday night’s live show, King proved that she could bring said edge and drama to the stage as well. Her rough, gritty voice works perfectly with the myriad of genres her discography explores, making for a killer and diverse concert experience.
