On their first ever US tour, UK rock band Crawlers arrived in Chicago to play to the small but dedicated crowd at the Subterranean. Rising to popularity post-pandemic when “Come Over (Again)” went viral, it was obvious why the band from Liverpool rose out of obscurity so quickly as the first few notes of “Monroe” rang out.
From the fans who were passing out hats for Amy’s birthday, to everyone patiently waiting inside as the tornado warning and storm passed, the dedication of Crawlers fans shone through. The setlist contained the familiar “Come Over (Again),” “I Can’t Drive,” and “Placebo,” as well as their newest release, “Fuck Me (I Didn’t Know How to Say).”
As they got ready to play “Come Over (Again),” lead singer Holly stopped to take a moment and thank everyone for their support, and express how much it meant to them that the song ended up meaning so much and resonating so deeply with their trans audience. She went on to add how important it was to them to be here, and to create a safe space to just hang out with friends, and if anyone was ever not feeling that way, to let them know and let the people around them know.
Though the set only lasted 10 songs, the feeling of the floorboards shaking to everyone singing and dancing along to “I Can’t Drive” would not soon leave the minds of the audience, new and old Crawlers fans alike.
