Coming off the release of their latest record, Leave What’s Lost Behind, Nashville indie rockers Colony House set out across the United States to tell the story behind the album. The band was greeted by a 21+ audience who crammed the intimate Star Theater of downtown Portland, more than ready to match the energy of the rock band.
Colony House put in a unique passion and love into their performance. The level of care and attention to detail to their work is found in their studio albums, but nothing compares to experiencing the band live. The energy the band gives off is overwhelming and intoxicating, as the audience radiates the same energy back to the group. As frontman Caleb Chapman mentioned during the show, he wanted to create an even more intimate experience on this tour and make even more of an effort to speak and connect with his fans during the shows.
Chapman took the stage solo around the midway point of the show. He explained with three albums out now, they want to try to fit in as many songs as possible without doing a three-hour show, and he laughed when a heckler shouted they wanted a three-hour long set. Chapman, with only an acoustic guitar in hand, then performed a medley of songs consisting of: “Trying,” “Learning How to Love,” “Roll With the Punches,” “Where Your Father’s Been” and “Remembered For.” The intimate venue was the perfect setting for an acoustic medley, and the crowd erupted at its finale when the remainder of the band joined Chapman onstage once more.
With three albums out now, it’s incredible to see a band continuing to perform and make music with even more passion than ever before. Colony House is a rare act and a special group to see live.
