On Saturday, pop songstress Chelsea Cutler stunned the crowd on her first of two sold-out nights at Terminal 5 in New York City. With a little help from openers X Lovers and Alexander 23, the night was filled with catchy tunes and epic sing-a-longs.
Cutler is currently on tour supporting her debut album How To Be Human, which was released at the top of 2020 via Republic Records. While many know her from the viral success she had early on in her career, it’s clear that as time has progressed, Cutler has struck a chord in many with her emotional pop songs. From the second she walked on stage until she sang the final notes of “Your Shirt,” everyone in attendance was screaming every word along with her. New York City is Cutler’s hometown and clearly her hometown fans were happy to see her come home. They were rooting and cheering her on with everything they had over the course of her set.
Cutler’s setlist covered a lot of ground, playing songs from the beginning of her career, both Sleeping With Roses EPs, and How To Be Human. She kicked off the show with “Are You Listening,” “Love You More,” and “Cold Showers.” The energy in the venue was electric, even during the slower songs Cutler’s energy never wavered, even for a second. About halfway through the set she played her current single “Sad Tonight,” which is an anthemic break-up song that landed Cutler at #36 on the Mainstream Top 40 Chart. When every chorus of the song hit, Cutler just held out her microphone and the crowd sang it back to her every time as if they were the last words they were ever going to sing.
The relationship Cutler has with her fans is incredibly intimate. Through her avid use of social media, where she interacts with her fans on a daily basis, it’s clear that the bond they have is hard to come by. The love, kindness and support the fans showed Cutler throughout the night created such a beautiful atmosphere in the venue, which was a beautiful thing to witness. She closed out the night with songs like “The Reason” and “Lucky” which features opener Alexander 23. She even gave the crowd a treat and brought out Quinn XCII to perform their hit song “Flare Guns.”
Chelsea Cutler is currently in the middle of the North American run of the How To Be Human tour. Head over to her website for dates and ticket information.
