Day two of Capitol Hill Block Party brought the heat to Seattle. An already hot day got even hotter as fans grew more excited as the lineup got closer and closer to Capitol Hill’s most anticipated headliner: BROCKHAMPTON.
Fans of the rap group showed up early to the festival, all complete wearing their merchandise and camped out all day to hold the best spot possible all day. Seattle contains a large presence of BROCKHAMPTON fans, and it was obvious since the start of the day that the group was taking over the festival.
The crowd was wild, hot and rowdy even before the group came on. People were packed tight, and those that had had enough or became sick/injured were continually dragged out from the audience pit by security to check on their health. Security had their hands full with spraying water on the crowd throughout the day to attempt to keep them cool, handing out bottled water to everyone and attending to those that came out of the pit.
The moment finally came and the self proclaimed “boy band” took the stage. In BROCKHAMPTON fashion the set was kept minimal to let the music speak for itself and only consisted of a turf, an array of lights surrounding the group and an LED screen displaying various visuals. The crowd erupted as six of their members (Kevin Abstract, Matt Champion, Joba, Dom McLennon, Merlyn Wood and Bearface) stepped onto the stage, and the insanity that had already began escalated as the adoring Seattle fans screamed back the bands lyrics and moved around as much as possible. The rap group turned the entirety of Seattle’s Pike Street into a mosh pit.
While Day Two may have been a BROCKHAMPTON takeover, it didn’t completely overshadow the performances before them. Betty Who’s “Who Crew” was in attendance, and many were singing and dancing along with the pop singer and her band and dancers. Many Oh Wonder fans were in attendance as well, and loved every second of the duo’s final U.S. performance (final, at least for a while).
