Historic Turner Hall was filled to capacity this past Friday as folk group CAAMP made a stop in Milwaukee as they tour their new album “By and By”. Futurebirds opened up the night with a highly entertaining performance, as the Georgia natives grooved for the entirety of their 45-minute set. With the crowd now energized, a single light illuminated a massive backdrop featuring the artwork from their most recent album release, “By and By”.
The duo, now quartet, initially started with childhood friends Taylor Meier and Evan Westfall, who met at summer camp in middle school. For those of you wondering, the additional “a” in CAAMP was an intentional move as the two believed it would make them easier to find in internet searches. With minimal words spoken between songs, CAAMP cascaded from one song to the next, drawing from their newest record, as well as older albums, such as “Boys” and “Caamp”.
Throughout the show the two shuffled instruments around, most notably when lead singer Taylor Meier swapped his guitar for the drum set as they performed “Going to the Country”. After a brief jam session, the group came back to play their high-paced song “Mockingbird Song” for their encore, leaving the sold-out crowd buzzing as they exited the venue.
