Boys Like Girls are back in a big way as they hit Chicago for the 22nd stop of The Speaking Our Language Tour on October 19th, 2023, with support from their stacked lineup consisting of Every Avenue, LØLØ, The Summer Set, and State Champs.
Touring for the first time in North America since 2016 supporting the release of their fourth studio album, SUNDAY AT FOXWOODS. Kicking off the night with “Love Drunk,” Boston-based Boys Like Girls picked up right where they had left off, making it feel like no time had passed since their hiatus. Going straight from “Love Drunk” into “Five Minutes to Midnight,” the night contained many other fan favorites like “Hero/Heroine,” and “Thunder,” as well as two songs off their new album, “Miracle” and “The Outside.” Martin Johnson’s vocals were as strong as ever, and the band’s chemistry on stage was just as remarkable as it was back in 2016.
Stopping about halfway through, the band reminisced about their MySpace days, joking about how fans used to rip their songs instead of purchasing them to the laughter of the crowd. Many of whom were wearing there ‘Still Emo After All These Years’ merch, along with older Boys Like Girls merch dating all the way back to the early 2000s.
The production was top-notch, with an impressive light show and visuals that complemented the music. The concert was a perfect blend of nostalgia and innovation, leaving long time fans thrilled and newcomers impressed. Boys Like Girls proved that they still have the magic to captivate audiences across generations, so if you’re looking for the closest thing around to a time machine, make sure to catch Boys Like Girls for their last couple of tour dates for a night you won’t forget.
