Just days before the release of her sophomore album CHAMPION, Bishop Briggs brought her high energy and mighty vocals for a jaw-dropping show at Portland’s Crystal Ballroom. Before the show, a large screen on stage counted down the minutes and seconds until showtime. With every passing minute and second, you could feel the excitement in the room increase. When the clock finally struck zero, the crowd roared, and the screen welcomed the crowd to the “Champion Tour”.
Opening with “Champion” was a perfect way to start the show. The anthemic chorus pounded through the speakers, as the crowd eagerly shouted along. Briggs’ larger than life vocal presence shone from the second she opened her mouth, leaving the room hanging on her every note. Her impeccable voice is made all the more impressive by the fact that she frequently runs in circle on stage, seemingly hyping herself up for the climax of whichever song she’s performing.
The screens behind her lit up with a flurry of colors and images, perfectly complimenting whatever song she was singing. At one point during the set, the iconic music videos for twenty one pilots’ “Stressed Out”, Panic! at the Disco’s “I Write Sins Not Tragedies”, and My Chemical Romance’s “Welcome to the Black Parade” were shown on screen, while Briggs performed a mashup of the three songs. The crowd went absolutely nuts for the mashup, as they did for just about anything she did on stage. With CHAMPION just days away, Bishop Briggs delivered a stellar show for Portland’s Crystal Ballroom, that we’re sure the crowd will be thinking of for years to come.
