While last Wednesday was the second date of Billy Raffoul and Wrabel’s co-headlining “happy people sing sad songs tour”, it was Raffoul’s first performance of the tour. After a rough travel day made him unable to perform in Seattle the night prior, Portland got to witness his first performance of the tour, and it was surely one to remember. His gravely, textured voice is as striking as it is emotive, proving to be a perfect vehicle for his grounded musical style.
When Raffoul stepped on stage, it was just him and his guitar. When he stepped off the stage, it was still just him and his guitar. His ability, through music alone, to demand an audience’s attention was beyond impressive, and perfectly demonstrates his raw power and talent. The dichotomy between his calm talking voice and his gritty singing voice made for a beautiful balancing act that became more and more intriguing with every song, story, and strum of the guitar. While this was only Raffoul’s first performance of the tour, he absolutely crushed it, and we’re sure the rest of the tour will be no different. Check out some photos from the show below!
