On Sunday, October 28th, 2018, the line for the Metro in Chicago was around the block, down the street and farther than it had ever been before. As the line drew closer to the door, the excitement grew to an almost chaotic level.
Packed from wall to wall, the excitement for the night was unreal. Finally, the moment everyone waited for happened and Billie Eilish took the stage.
At only 16, Eilish has accomplished more than most can say. With more than 16 million monthly listeners on Spotify, she’s the 106th most-streamed artist in the world. With that being said, her performance showed us exactly why her following is so strong.
Performing tracks like “bellyache” and “you should see me in a crown,” Eilish’s stage presence exceeded expectations as she took the stage on top of a giant spider installation. She bounced from one side of the stage to the other, interacting with fans and encouraging them to jump, dance and sing at the top of their lungs.
As the show continued, the audience became more and more packed against the barricade, almost to a scary degree. Noticing it from the stage, Eilish stopped the show, asked for the house lights to come up and asked if security could help out and pass out some water. Eilish even spoke to a few fans to make sure they were okay, caring for each individual member as if they were friends.
Eilish’s vocal abilities alongside brother, Finneas O’connell, were overwhelmingly perfect, although raw and emotional. As she continued through her just over an hour set, the energy was constant and contagious, allowing fans to forget about anything outside of the venue. As Eilish performed “Hostage,” the room grew silent and emotional, with many audience members reduced to tears.
Overall, Eilish’s performance at the Metro was unbelievably excellent for an artist so new to the scene. Her passion clearly shows and is excellently paired with her live show, vocal abilities and genre choice. Be sure to check out Eilish at a city near you soon.
