New Zealand’s newest treasure BENEE took the stage at Rough Trade in Brooklyn, New York on Monday night. She played songs from her debut EP Fire On Marzz, which was released earlier this year via Republic Records. There’s no denying that her songs are infectious – they provide listeners with pop vocals paired with R&B, Rock, and Alternative influences that will leave listeners reeling.
It was cold in Brooklyn on Monday night, but BENEE’s bright personality and fun tunes brought some warmth to those attending the show. It’s special for someone so young to have that everlasting youthful quality come through in their personality and stage presence, but still has the ability to write such mature songs. She is the perfect combination of the two, and is surely an artist that music fans shouldn’t be sleeping on. Both her music and stage presence are what make her loved by such a wide age range. The audience ranged from teens younger than BENEE herself to middle aged adults, all who were dancing and singing with her all night long.
Her stage presence is the perfect compliment to her soulful music. Her movements are goofy and adorable (just like BENEE herself). These are some of the qualities that make her incredibly special as an artist because she’s able to show fans that she is unequivocally comfortable in her own skin.
While her brief east coast tour has come to an end, BENEE will be returning to North America later this fall to serve as tour support for label mate Conan Gray. Head over to her website for more information on her upcoming tour dates and releases.
