Baby Tate, formerly known as Young Baby Tate, is a rapper, singer, producer, dancer, and overall Jill of all musical trades. She is currently opening for pop futurist Charli XCX’s North American tour supporting her album CRASH which was released just weeks before the show. The atmosphere at Portland’s Crystal Ballroom was buzzing with excitement long before the show started, and when Baby Tate hit the stage, she turned the energy up to a whole new level.
Baby Tate was a force from the moment she strutted on stage; her vocal presence was impressive and her stage presence was that of a seasoned professional. Her music portrays an empowered woman who’s unafraid to speak her truth or be confident in her sexuality, and her performance exuded that same passion. She very clearly understands her voice, her body, and how to deliver a performance.
No moment of Baby Tate’s time on stage was wasted. When she wasn’t singing or rapping, she was dancing. And when she wasn’t doing any of those things, she was talking with the audience and building a connection with the people in the crowd. It felt like the ultimate message that she wanted the audience to leave with is to not only be impressed by her confidence, but to leave with more confidence of their own.
Baby Tate’s set was the perfect way to kickoff a night of amazing music; it was amazing display of what she’s is all about, while getting the crowd extra hyped for a stellar show by Charli XCX.
