On the crisp evening of October 2nd, 2023, the iconic venue Warsaw in Brooklyn, New York City played host to the Canadian rock sensations, the Arkells, for an unforgettable concert experience. Arkells have been on the At Your Service USA tour since July, and have been accompanied by eclectic one-man band Robert DeLong. This tour is in support of their new album, “Laundry Pile”.
The album “Laundry Pile” stands as a testament to Arkells’ fearless creative ambition, showcasing the band’s distinctive qualities. This remarkable record represents their most introspective and personal collection of songs to date, a departure from their usual high-energy sound, while embracing the essence of the classic singer-songwriter tradition. “Laundry Pile” presents itself as a unified and immersive listening journey, exposing a profound vulnerability and striking beauty that forges an even deeper connection between the band and their fans.
The setlist was a perfect blend of their classic hits and tracks from their most recent album. “Leather Jacket,” “Knocking at the Door,” and “Whistleblower” were met with thunderous applause and sing-alongs, while the newer songs showcased the band’s evolution and ability to continually reinvent themselves. Arkells even had a fan phone in halfway through the show using their “At Your Service Request Line” and played “Only for a Moment”, which was a fun and unique experience. They also covered Dolly Parton’s “9-5” and Billy Joel’s “Vienna”, which had the crowd going wild.
Arkells ended the show with a three song encore and bubble machine, which turned the night into one huge dance party. For anyone who had the privilege of attending, this was a night to remember, and a testament to the Arkells’ status as one of the most engaging and talented live acts in the music industry today.
