On Tuesday night, Alexander 23 closed out his tour in Oakland, CA with a bang. He played a solid set, covering songs across all of his projects and it was clear that the crowd loved every second of it.
Throughout the entire 15 song set, the crowd’s energy never wavered, which was clearly feeding Alexander 23’s performance. With each song that passed in the set, the energy in the venue got more and more electric and rambunctious, in the best way. He opened his set with fan favorite “Cry Over Boys” and then launched into “Girl” and “Come Here and Leave Me Alone”.
As his set progressed, fans just kept screaming louder and louder. They knew every word to every song and weren’t afraid to show it. About halfway through the set, Alexander 23 played the incredibly emotional song “Brainstorm,” which discusses his personal struggle with mental health. Before playing his viral hit “IDK You Yet,” Alexander 23 gave an emotional speech about his process for writing the song at the beginning of the pandemic and how it has changed his life – a sentiment that only made the crowd fall in love with him more. He closed out his set with fan favorite “Dirty AF1’s” and then invited opening act Max Leone on-stage to end with a fun, chaotic cover of Semi Sonic’s “Closing Time.”
The magical thing about going to concerts while the world is trying to work its way out of a global pandemic, is that every concert feels like everyone’s first. The love, community and adoration for artists and that fans hold for each other is apparent in every crowd at every show these days. After so much pain, music fans have finally been able to find their way back to their home and community – and this Alexander 23 show was no exception. The power and emotionality of live music was alive and well on Tuesday night, making it a show Alexander 23 and fans alike will surely not forget.
