On September 29th Australian pop-rock band 5 Seconds of Summer (5SOS) took the stage at the Smart Financial Center. The band was greeted with loud screams from fans that resonated in the venue’s walls. We have seen this band play venues of all sizes and at each venue they own the stage.
The Meet You There Tour is the band’s tour revolving around their third studio album Youngblood. The tour began at 26 intimate venues which we got to see on April 16 at House of Blues in Chicago. A couple months later, September 28, we had the opportunity to see them at a larger venue in Texas. The energy the band projected off stage to the audience at a small venue was the same as the energy they projected at a larger venue.
Taking the stage with their opening song Babylon, 5SOS grasped the audience’s attention and their hearts. It is no surprise why this band went from singing covers on Youtube, to opening up for One Direction and then selling out venues all over the world.
5 Seconds of Summer is not afraid to be themselves on stage, run into pits crowded with fans, or tell jokes on stage. It is quite rare to find an artist that is able to connect so well with their audience on a personal level and artist level. Through their genuine individuality they have built a fanbase “5SOSfam” that is family of fans that will continue to support them as they continue to grow as artists and individuals.
The Sugar Land date of the Meet You There Tour was filled with energy not only coming from the band but from the audience as well. Fans got to hear their favorite songs from Youngblood and from the band’s previous albums. The tour will continue for a few more dates in Northern America before they head off to Europe, this is a show you don’t want to miss!
