At just 21 years old, Peter McPoland is taking the world by storm by intertwining alternative, indie and folk sounds. Single after single, he delivers on just what his audience seeks: beauty and raw storytelling.
Just last week, McPoland released his third track of 2022 titled “Let Her Remember.” It’s an absolutely beautiful three minutes and 32 seconds that is guaranteed to leave you wanting more. He does something rather captivating with the lyrics in this song, as the beginning lines directly correlate with the ending lines.
The first three lines:
“Do you remember?
I think it was June, maybe a Monday afternoon
In the parkin’ lot, I guess I aint forgotten it too”
The last three lines:
“I do remember
I know it was June, on a Monday afternoon
In the parkin’ lot, I guess you’ve forgotten”
The young artist began racking up followers on the popular social media app, TikTok. McPoland posts videos of himself singing and promoting his own music, in addition to covering hits like “Levitating” and “Vienna.” With now over half a million TikTok followers, his platform is evergrowing and proving to be a fantastic way to get people excited about new music. The singer was signed to Columbia Records last year.
Largely what draws listeners in is McPoland’s ability to make relatable music and content. He often sings about coming-of-age and adolescence-related topics, which are things that a lot of his audience can appreciate. “String Lights” and “(Here’s to the) Prom Queen” exemplify these ideas perfectly. Beyond the lyrics and stories told, McPoland connects with his fans on social media in a way that leaves them coming back and feeling seen. His Instagram is nothing short of light-hearted and witty.
McPoland’s sound and lyricism could be easily compared to that of Rex Orange County. He often conveys what many of us want to say but don’t quite know how. Take a song like “I Love You Too,” for example. This song is quite literally a work of art and could effortlessly be translated into a love letter. The artist has a natural gift and without a doubt, his passion for music is evident. It’s clear he puts his all into every piece that is released and we, as fans, could not appreciate that more.
This May, he will be setting out for a tour across the United States and Canada. If you have the chance, we highly recommend that you check out a live performance from this talented artist. If you’re looking for a new musician to support, McPoland is guaranteed to make you say ‘wow’ when you take a listen to his work. In addition to the tracks mentioned previously, we suggest “Come Around,” “Shit Show” and “i can’t sleep.”
With a long and bright future ahead of him, McPoland’s talent will continue to stun. We cannot wait to see what this young singer is going to accomplish, but rest assured, it will be something great.
