Our October Staff Playlist is full of new and old songs, perfect for cozying up with a cup of hot apple cider or even getting ready for your annual Halloween party. Check out what our staff had to say about their favorite tracks for our October Staff Playlist.
1999 – Charli XCX feat. Troye Sivan
This is a newer, infectious pop track that takes me right back to my nineties childhood. With references of Britney Spears and “All That” how could I not love it? It’s been so fun to see the nineties come back into style and this song could be the anthem. Charli XCX and Troye make a great team and this song will definitely be on repeat for me for awhile! – Lauren Klonowski, Senior Contributing Writer
Joyride – RUSSO
I’m so obsessed with RUSSO. “Joyride”, along with the entirety of the band’s debut EP ‘House with a Pool’ have had me feeling like a kid again. This song is very reminiscent of early No Doubt, which is a quality I’ve been searching for in modern music. “Joyride” is a song filled with heartache and nostalgia, which are two qualities I always love in songs. – Gina Scarpino, Photo Editor
Making Breakfast – Twin Peaks
I saw Twin Peaks live for the first time at Riot Fest last month and honestly, this song was so fun live, I listened to it at least 10 times on the drive home after. There really is just something special about seeing a band with some good friends and it leaving a lasting mark in your memory. – Chelsea Gresh, Contributing Photographer
Let Me Know- LANY
If I could make every song on Malibu Nights my October playlist song I would. The entire album is beautiful but something about “Let me Know” has me repeating it a few times before I go to the next song. I think I like most is that Paul lets “her” know that he isn’t going to be waiting but if “she” was to ever come back, he would leave all he has now behind for her, and that’s so tragically beautiful. In the entire album you can tell that Paul had a certain and strong love for one woman who literally ripped his heart out and he turned it into magic. I love it. – Sam Aneed, Contributing Writer
Walk Alone – Pvris
I’m not sure if this is just something I do, but especially with my favorite artists I’ll go through spurts where I’ll listen to their music obsessively for a while – and then (without meaning to) I take a break from listening to them for a while. Recently Pvris announced they had finished the touring cycle of their most recent album, All We Know of Heaven, All We Need of Hell, and are heading back into the studio to make their third album. As someone who owns the albums and EPs on vinyl, various other band merch and even has a tattoo of their logo, I’ve jumped back into their Spotify page and haven’t listened to anything else since. It’s still the very beginning and very early, but I’m already excited to see what Pvris does for their third album. – Joe Hernandez, Contributing Photographer
Power Over Me – Dermot Kennedy
Dermot’s voice is just powerful on this track. It is more upbeat than his other songs. Its a good song to listen to when you need to get pumped up. – Bailey Flores, Contributing Photographer
With You in My Head (feat. The Black Angels) – UNKLE
Even though this song was released 8 years ago, it’s been a staple on my fall playlist for the past few weeks. Also, if we’re being honest, this song takes me back to my junior high Twilight-obsession days, since it was on the soundtrack for Eclipse. As Twilight’s 10th anniversary approaches in November, I think this song is fitting to relive that vampire vitality. – Abby Fox, Senior Contributing Writer
Think I’m Still In Love With You – Joyce Manor
Joyce Manor just released their newest album and will be touring for the next couple of months. This alternative pop punk group created my anthem for the past month with this song. Give it a listen if you’re a fan of alternative rock! – Senior Contributing Writer
Give Me – Boy In Space
I recently discovered this song by Boy In Space on Spotify and have listened to it every day since. It makes me want to move, but it’s mellow enough to just drive to as well. – Nicolita Bradley, Contributing Photographer
Back Again – You Me At Six
This song is on my staff playlist because it’s one of my favorites from You Me At Six’s new album, XI. It’s just a fun little tune and I can’t wait to see where the band goes with this absolutely amazing album! – Delaney DeAngelis
You Too – Chase Atlantic
This is a new style of writing for Chase Atlantic and I really enjoy the direction they’re taking. It’s always impressive to me that this bad writes, tracks, mixes, and produces their own material—it speaks volumes of their talent and creativity. – Kristen Humphries, Contributing Writer
Sweet But Psycho – Ava Max
This song is on my October playlist because I simply can not get it out of my head. It’s so catchy and fun to listen to any time of the day! – Alicia Rangel, Contributing Photographer
Darkness – Pinegrove
Darkness, off of Pinegrove’s newest album “Skylight” represent everything to be loved about Pinegrove. It’s country/folk-esque sound with sad yet intelligent lyrics are just what I hoped for from Pinegrove’s return to music. – Stone Fenk, Contributing Photographer
Close Your Eyes – Kim Petras
I’ll be honest in saying that I was a little caught off guard with Kim Petras’ new EP. She usually makes peppy, upbeat, bubblegum pop, and here she was with a Halloween themed project. While much darker than her previous singles, both lyrically and sonically, “Close Your Eyes” shows that Kim Petras is so much more than a one trick pony. – Blake Charles, Contributing Writer and Photographer
Linda – Skela, Dylan Matthew
When a new artist comes onto your radar, do you latch on for dear life, listening to every single thing that they’ve ever released? I know, it happens to me too. When I saw Skela in New York this summer, I realized that her music embodied everything I love in artistry, from colors to vocal talent to lyrics. Now, she’s been slowly releasing bits and pieces of Project 10, ten songs that are being released prior to a huge announcement next year. Anyways, “Linda” is one of those songs that catches me in whatever mood I’m in, stops me in my tracks and instantly puts me in a good mood. I can’t stop listening to it. – Addie Whelan, Editor In Chief
