Nolo Grace has a subtle perfection to her. She’s commanding, but flashy isn’t the right word. She doesn’t demand attention, She simply takes it. This can be accredited to her persona outside of her artistry where she works as a senior advisor to the private equity firm TPG Global—business and finance always requires an element of suave. But of course, being a musician, the music itself deserves the same recognition.
“Winter Blue” is a silky and electric dream-pop sensation and entirely self-produced (the echos and layers heard in the track represent Grace’s signature production style). Made in the early hours of pandemic mornings, her latest single is a reflection on the last two sickness-filled years and a self-examination of her role as an artist. In a press release, Grace explains that “‘Winter Blue’ is a time capsule. It captures the mood of making music at 6am every day during the pandemic, the quarantine solo sessions that got me through this period. Now that we’re moving out of that period, I am making sense of these pieces to share my experience and musical expression.”
As soon as the music begins for “Winter Blue” and her vocals are heard, listeners are instantly enthralled by what the artist has to offer. With her overall sound and thoughtful and personal lyricism, she captures the audience and holds them captive until the music ends. But are the listeners ever truly free if they keep coming back for more?
Her fourth released single, “Winter Blue” is nothing less than promising. Even with a small discography, Grace proves to be one to watch. We can’t wait to see what she produces next.
