We all need a British band in our lives. This week’s New Music Monday we are spotlighting a new British rock band called The Struts. They have a big following and very well known for their exciting live shows. They even have been compared to The Rolling Stones.
The Struts were formed in 2009 when lead singer Luke Spiller was introduced to guitarist Adam Slack in Derby. The made an instant connection and soon recruited former members Jamie Binns (Bass) and drummer Rafe Thomas. They all moved to a house in Derby to begin writing and recording. Shortly after that, they were signed to Future Records, a division of Universal Music. After they played local small shows in Derby, they became the supporting act for British band Mcfly’s Above the Noise Tour in 2011.
Future Records closed down in 2012 and the band was transferred to Mercury Records (Now called Virgin EMI). The line-up also changed with Binns and Thomas being replaced by bassist Jed Elliott and drummer Gethin Davies.
The Struts released their single “Could Have Been Me” in 2013, which hit #7 on the US Alternative Charts. Soon after they released their album Everybody Wants in July 2014. They also released an EP called Have You Heard? in August 2015.
Why are The Struts our New Music Monday?
This band is a glam band that really rocks! Their album Everybody Wants is a definite modern glam rock with mix of alternative sounds that are pulled off perfectly. The bands image also screams glam rock. Not to mention they get compared to some of the most notable classic rock bands. Give them a listen and they are currently touring the US too.
