Some of us once in awhile like to listen to hard driven, sad, angry music. Sometimes after a breakup, fight, or just wanting to isolate ourselves from the world. If you are looking to update your sad music library, then Meg Myers is your artist. Myers has said to L.A Weekly, “I make a lot of sad music, but it’s how I cope with my pain and in a strange way heal from it.” Her music isn’t just sad, but her songs are addicting and her writing is something we can all relate to.
The Tennessee singer-songwriter was born on October 6, 1986 in Nashville, TN. Myers spent her first five years in Tennessee’s Smoky Mountains, where she was raised by her truck driver father and Jehovah’s Witness mother. After her parents divorced, she relocated to Ohio, where her mother remarried a fellow Jehovah Witness and both worked for a cleaning business. At age 12, Myers and her siblings were taken out of school and moved yet again to Florida, where they bounced from town to town during her teen years. During this time, Myers began singing, writing songs on keyboard, and teaching herself how to play the guitar.
Before her 20th birthday, Myers decided to move to Los Angeles, CA to pursue her music career. She lived in a studio apartment with her then-boyfriend. She got a job as a waitress at a coffee shop in Hollywood and played whenever she could get a gig. Things didn’t work out with her boyfriend, and she ended meeting a guy named Rosen, who signed her to his production company. They soon began writing songs together. Myers finally released her full length album Sorry on September 18, 2015.
According to Atlantic Records, Myers said she has one goal for her music: “I want it to make people not afraid to feel.”
