Welcome to the weekend! It’s time to take a collective look at the best albums, singles and EPs released this week. Let’s find some tracks to show off at parties and hangouts this weekend.
The best of New Music Friday:
IDLES – “Dancer”
IDLES sent a splash with their new song “Dancer” out this week on Partisan Records. The British rockers’ single features vocals from LCD Soundsystem members James Murphy and Nancy Whang. “Dancer” is a peppy track and the music video features the band getting loose while singing about getting jiggy. The bass is rough, the guitar is whip smart.
“Dancer” is the first single shared to coincide with the announcement of their fifth full-length LP titled TANGK which will arrive on February 16, 2024. Kenny Beats is back in the producer chair after having a hand in their last album Crawler. Nigel Godrich and IDLES’ guitarist Mark Bowen also helped produce the record.
In a release, IDLES’ singer Joe Talbot said “Dancer” is about violence, but not just any kind. It’s the one where the body craves to let loose.
“‘Dancer’ is the violence that comes from the pounding heart of the dancefloor and rushes through your body and gives you life from music,” Talbot said.
IDLES have become something of a cultural phenomenon, a band with scrappy vocals and noise that many music lovers enjoy regardless of musical taste. They’ve played Coachella and their t-shirts can be spotted at a plethora of live concerts. “Dancer” shows they’re not slowing down.
