Happy New Music Friday. Despite spring being in bloom, there’s a blizzard of major label releases this week from music’s most iconic names. Scroll on to see what great singles and EPs are out now. First, here’s a close look at two albums that have the world talking just as much as they have everyone listening.
The Best of New Music Friday:
Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard And Soft
Billie Eilish’s third studio album is here. Hit Me Hard And Soft brings out ten unreleased songs. Eilish had dropped zero singles leading up to the record’s release.
Look at the cover for Hit Me Hard And Soft. Eilish has been tossed into the deep via teleportation door. Now she’s under the ocean. Instead of sinking, she swims upwards, singing about new themes, including her recently ‘outed’ sexuality. “I didn’t realize people didn’t know,” she told Variety Magazine. Well, for listeners who make it to the album’s second song “LUNCH,” it’ll be very obvious that Eilish is comfortable with herself. This track of quick quips and whims is filled with Eilish’s cravings for a certain girl. “LUNCH” is steamy. It could be an early song of the summer contender.
There are some soft pop moments plus a new exploration of sound and caress on Eilish’s latest venture. It was produced with her brother FINNEAS, by the way (of course). On “BIRDS OF A FEATHER,” Eilish promises a lover that she’ll give her all until “I rot away, dead and buried in the casket that you carried.”
There’s a great balance of songs with straightforwardness versus the ones that require a deeper appreciation and efforted thought into Eilish’s lyrics. This shows off what a masterful lyricist and songcrafter she’s become since the late 2010s. And it’s not all soft tracks too. There’s a dark hyperpop vibe on “L’AMOUR DE MA VIE,” a fun song that should be a great crowd-pleaser when played live.
Good thing Eilish is about to play two dates in nearly every mid to major city in the world between now and the end of July 2025. Information on her super long “Hit Me Hard And Soft World Tour” can be found here.
It’s a new chapter for Eilish, and she’ll be a top focus in music again for some time to come, thanks to this latest page turn. That’s quite a long time to tour and promote a popular record. Here’s hoping Eilish finds plenty of lunch to suffice along the way.
Childish Gambino – Atavista
The music world woke up to the surprise release of Donald Glover’s latest Childish Gambino album Atavista this past Monday. The record is a rework of 3.15.20. It features songs with Young Nudy, Ariana Grande, Kadhja Bonet, 21 Savage, and Ink.
