Happy March everyone! With the beginning of a new month comes a new New Music Friday, 10 of the hottest tracks from which we’ve listed here.
Nicki Minaj- Red Ruby Da Sleaze
This new single from Nicki Minaj samples Lumidee’s 2003 hit “Never Leave You (Uh Oooh, Uh Oooh)“. Beyond even Nicki’s contributions, it’s great to hear a classic like that get a revival.
Kali Uchis ft. Don Toliver- Fantasy
This track is a standout from Kali Uchis’ fantastic new album Red Moon in Venus. It features Don Toliver, who himself dropped a great new album, Love Sick, last week. Good times for everyone involved.
Don Toliver ft. Travis Scott- Embarrassed
Speaking of Don Toliver and his new album, this song was released this week as a bonus to that album, a welcome surprise to those who loved Love Sick like us. For years now, Don Toliver-Travis Scott collabs have brought nothing but quality, and we see no reason why things would change in the future.
Gorillaz ft. Del the Funky Homosapien- Captain Chicken
Similarly, Gorillaz just dropped a new bonus track as part of the deluxe edition of their album from last week, Cracker Island, featuring long-time collaborator Del the Funky Homosapien, who was on their first hit, “Clint Eastwood,” all the way back in 2001. It’s a pairing that seemingly can’t go wrong.
Mimi Webb- Freezing
Here we have a solid dance-pop cut from British singer-songwriter Mimi Webb, who dropped her first album, Amelia, today. Its quality says good things about the album and releases from her for years to come.
j-hope ft. J. Cole- On the Street
This track is a prime example of the power of international collaboration, bringing together two of the biggest rappers from South Korea and the U.S. for a song that sounds like few others you’ll hear this year.
Slowthai- Sooner
British rapper Slowthai’s new album UGLY is one of the most exciting of 2023 so far, and this track serves as a prime example of why. From its thought-provoking lyrics to its unique instrumental, it shows why Slowthai remains one of the hottest names in grime.
Demi Lovato- Still Alive
We’re all excited to see Scream VI when it comes out next Friday, and this new track from Demi Lovato only adds to that excitement. Check it out and buy a ticket for what’s sure to be one of the most insane horror movies of 2023.
Anuel AA, Mambo Kingz, DJ Lucian- Mas Rica Que Ayer
Turning to Latin America for a second, reggaeton star Anuel AA just dropped a fantastic new track with star producers Mambo Kingz and DJ Lucian. While it’s unclear if it’s attached to a larger project, its quality means we can only hope we’ll be getting more soon.
Metallica- If Darkness Has a Son
Finally, we have legendary metal band Metallica, with the third track they’ve released from their upcoming 11th(!) studio album 72 Seasons. The lyrics are, as the title suggests, dark and tortured, suggesting an intriguing direction for the band, who’ve undergone several changes in tone, style and lineup over their 40+ year existence.
