Happy New Music Friday, friends! This week is full of killer tracks from Ava Max, Lorde, Doja Cat and more! See the full guide below.
1. “Need To Know” – Doja Cat
The next installment of Doja Cat’s highly anticipated album, Planet Her, is probably what you’d expect, but this sexy pop track reaches its full potential with Doja Cat’s vocal. This track might fall flat if another artist performed it, but the Doja Cat sound turns this into an infectious fan favorite.
2. “Solar Power” – Lorde
Alt-pop icon Lorde returns with her first track since 2017 and it’s fair to say it was well worth the wait. Instead, Lorde’s taken a trip to the beach and swapping heart-tugging lyrics for upbeat, celebratory ones.
3. “checkmate” – BIIANCO
A sultry and soulful opening will capture any listener’s attention immediately — it’s slow but simultaneously hard-hitting lyrically. Then, it molds into the chorus that shows off BIIANCO’s strong vocal that is honestly some of their best work yet.
4. “On Your Back” – AFI
AFI’s latest album, Bodies, has arrived! This track is a clear standout — it features old-school punk energy that is met with a dreamy chorus that will be sure to draw just about anyone in.
5. “Acid Rain” – The Spins
A solid alt-rock sound from the first note. The energetic voice, killer guitar riffs and strong backbeat throughout the song come together so well and make an infatuating classic.
6. “Bones” – Rest For The Wicked
This song is as cool as it is haunting. It’s dark and moody and will be sure to pique your interest. But, while it has that cool sound, it also has hard-hitting lyrics to match. So get ready to have this one on repeat!
7. “Venus Fly Trap” – MARINA
MARINA returns with a strong-willed alt-pop track that blows away her previous work. It’s full of arrogant angst (in the best way possible) and it allows her to showcase everything she can do vocally, all in one killer track.
8. “I Quit Drinking” – Kelsea Ballerini & LANY
A country-pop dream. Former BTS cover star Kelsea Ballerini teams up with the pop group, LANY and it’s a match made in heaven. This breakup track is dripping with heartache that you can’t help but get sucked into. It’s clear that Ballerini penned the track with Paul Klein, lead singer of LANY — this track perfectly combines both their styles effortlessly.
9. “Blouse” – Clairo
“Blouse” is the first single off the forthcoming Clairo album, Sling. Its light and simple sound can make you overlook the hard-hitting lyrics if you don’t listen closely. And you should listen closely. This song tells a strong story that too many people can relate to and it’s a story that some need to hear and learn from.
10. “EveryTime I Cry” – Ava Max
A new side of Ava Max makes its debut in this track. There’s evident growth within her vocal and songwriting. While this track does have a standard pop beat, the lyrics take it to a new level. The track talks about taking a bad situation and becoming stronger because of it.
