Michigander, the brainchild and passion project of American singer and Michigan native Jason Singer, shared two new tracks with the world — an uplifting rock anthem in “Let Down” and B-Side “48,” with its folksy notes.
A year since the release of his Where Do We Go From Here EP with C3 Records, Singer’s profile in the music industry has risen drastically, and is still continuing to rise. Leading his surge is the song “Misery” from the EP, helping generate 12 million streams globally and even breaking into the Top 25 at AAA radio.
Michigander in from its very core exudes a Midwestern spirit, delivering inspiring rock as well as some pop music, both heavily centered around the guitar. The main intent of making such music is to wring out heavy emotional responses from the listeners, with a tasteful mix of empowering lyrics thrown in with the music.
Speaking about “Let Down,” Singer said that he got the idea for it from his own life experiences. He said that he is one to get his hopes up about most situations in his life, and due to that he often feels let down when things don’t meet his “unrealistic” expectations.
“I’ve been trying to be a lot more patient with life and just enjoy the journey,” Singer said.
“48” is a good complementary song to “Let Down,” Singer said. Written during his quarantine period, the song talks about Singer’s tendency to overthink situations and romanticize interactions in his life. It serves to be a lesson in introspection for Singer.
“It’s good to be able to look back and examine and I think this song does that,” Singer said.
Along with “Let Down,” an accompanying video was also released, directed by Matt Everitt. The video features black and white clips interspersed with colorful scenes with flashing lights, making for a very visually appealing package. It can be viewed below.
