Michigander released a brand new single titled “Fears” on Friday, April 21st and we can’t stop listening to it.
With his unique vocals, Jason Singer, lead singer for Michigander tells a story through music. Like their other singles, the band created a tune with meaningful lyrics and a strong guitar lead in the track just like in most of their other songs.
“I actually wrote the song in high school” says Jason as he talks about “Fears.” He recalls it being about the thought of all his friends leaving, and moving on with their lives after high school. The song narrows in on where is everyone going, and what are the plans, meaning plans for the future. It’s a song you’d want to go back and listen too your last week of high school or right before graduation.
The main lyric in the song, “you can go but just don’t leave me,” is heartbreakingly beautiful because it’s telling these people, to go ahead and live their lives, but just don’t forget about the memories or the people back home. Referring to the lyrics of the song, Singer told us he found all the lyrics in a one of his high school notebooks. “A lot of the lyrics were one liners I wrote in high school in my notebook, and it sort of all just came together.”
Take a combination of lyrics from a high school notebook, a band and a voice and the outcome will be a masterpiece. There is a raw emotion behind the meaning of the song, the thought of everyone leaving was frightening, and it soon became a reality.
The track was put together and crafted perfectly. Take a deeper listen and listen carefully for the meaning.
