L.A based alt-pop outfit Machineheart, best known for their hit single ‘Circles’ is making noise once again with their newest single ‘Stonecold’. They are readying to release their sophomore EP (which is currently untitled but is due out this fall). In anticipation for more music, the band took the songs epic debut to Interview’s website, and we must admit that it’s a different sound for the band. It’s not as upbeat as ‘Circles’. It almost seems that the optimism that was Machineheart is taking a backseat for now.
‘Stonecold’ is a more stripped down piece meditating on the ruins of a relationship. Although of speaks of such dramatic events, it’s easy to not take things too seriously with the backdrop beat throughout the song. “It was written during a moment of clarity, the kind when you are able to see life from a third-person view and see the situation for what it really is, rather than through your own rose colored eyes,”lead singer Stevie Scott says reflecting back on when she wrote the song. “I’m a perennial optimist, so it really takes a lot to get me to that kind of place.”
“Stonecold’ lets out deep breath of raw emotion in between being in love and waiting for everything to fall apart as it should. ‘You know you did me wrong / you turn me stonecold’ states the chorus of the eerie track. It’s a beautiful masterpiece that displays great maturity from the band, and Stevie Scott as the lead. Her vocals tells a story that could rip apart your emotions if you’re not careful. Scott displays beauty in vulnerability, which makes ‘Stonecold’ Machineheart’s best track to date.
