In his Instagram story, Machine Gun Kelly wrote that the opportunity is a “bucket list moment.” It seemingly isn’t the first time Machine Gun Kelly got close to the legendary SNL stage. Back in October, the singer tweeted that he had nearly been on the show to perform in place of another that that fell through.
“It almost happened this weekend” he tweeted, complete with sad emojis. Machine Gun Kelly is notoriously close friends with Pete Davison, who is an actor and comedian on SNL and also appeared in MGK’s music videos for “Candy” and “LOCO.”
The two have even appeared together on the silver screen in Big Time Adolescence and MÖtley CrÜe biopic, The Dirt. Here’s hoping the duo has at least a couple sketches together in the upcoming SNL episode.
The announcement comes following the debut of Downfalls High, a musical film to accompany MGK’s pop punk album, Tickets to My Downfall. The film premiered January 15 and on its opening weekend garnered over 16 million views via Facebook Live before being uploaded to Youtube January 18, where it currently has nearly 4.6 million views.
Tickets to My Downfall, released September 25th, 2020, is MGK’s first album to hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 Chart. The album also came in No. 1 on the Top Rock Albums chart, marking Machine Gun Kelly’s premier on the list.
Not one to have a slow week, MGK also appeared January 21 in YUNGBLUD’s official music video for “acting like that.” MGK is featured in the song and appears in the video set in a post-apocalyptic zombie world alongside the singer.
NBC’s announcement also included the lineups for Saturday Night Live on February 6: Dan Levy & Phoebe Bridgers as well as Feburary 13: Regina King & Nathaniel Rateliff.
