You may not know who Stargate are, but we guarantee you have heard the music they produced.
Stargate is a production duo consisting of Tor Hermansen and Mikkel Eriksen. They are producers and songwriters from Trondheim, Norway. They’ve been around in the music industry for a long time now, since 1996.
Over the years, the production team have worked with some of the most influential artists of our time, including names like Ne-Yo, Beyoncé, Jennifer Hudson, Selena Gomez, Rihanna and more. On top of that, they’ve even produced some of the biggest hits in that past two decades — and they’re still making them today!
Here is a (LONG) list of songs that Stargate helped produce and write. Get ready for some surprises (and believe us, there is one).
“So Sick” – Ne-Yo
Ne-Yo and Stargate have worked with each a myriad number of times. Stargate helped pen and produce Ne-Yo’s hits such as “Sexy Love,” “Because of You,” “Miss Independent” and so much more.
“Unfaithful” – Rihanna
This 2004 ballad is among one of the many works created by Stargate and Ne-Yo. They worked together on Rihanna’s “Take A Bow” and “Hate That I Love You.”
“Wait For You” – Elliott Yamin
Who remembers this classic song? Yeah, this 2007 song was produced and penned by Stargate.
“Tattoo” – Jordin Sparks
With Hermansen and Eriksen behind the production, “Tattoo” reached platinum certifications. Does this sound similar to Beyoncé’s “Irreplaceable?” Probably so, given that Stargate helped make that as well.
“With You” – Chris Brown
Oh yes, this classic Chris Brown song was solely produced by the team of Hermansen and Eriksen. They wrote this song with Johntá Austin, who they also collaborated with on “Can’t Help But Wait” by Trey Songz.
“Black And Yellow” – Wiz Khalifa
This popular Pittsburgh anthem has Stargate’s production stamp all over it. Bet you didn’t see this coming?
“Only Girl (In The World)” – Rihanna
We see Stargate adding more of the Europop influences in pop music. Stargate and Rihanna worked together to make some of the biggest hits over her career. They also produced her song, “Don’t Stop The Music.”
“Fireworks” – Katy Perry
This song reminds us of simpler times. Stargate helped usher in the 2010 decade, producing this iconic Katy Perry hit, which is currently sitting at over 10 billion views on YouTube.
“S&M” – Rihanna
Three Rihanna songs on one list? Heck, the songs that Stargate and Rihanna worked together on deserves a list of its own. Stargate helped write and produce this song along with Ester Dean, who’s penned a couple hits herself. Dean and Stargate also helped to make Rihanna’s “What’s My Name?” “Rude Boy” and the song before this one.
“Let Me Love You (Until You Learn To Love Yourself) – Ne-Yo
Another Ne-Yo smash hit? Are you surprised? Stargate produced this Europop-heavy song, co-writing it with none other than the great Sia. The two also worked on Rihanna’s “Diamonds” together.
“The Fox” – Ylvis
SURPRISE! Yes, Stargate helped produced what was supposed to be an “anti-hit” turned viral, internet sensation that is so catchy that it got the world singing along. The song was made to fail, but the internet is vastness sea of randomness that can make anything succeed.
“Better” – Khalid
It’s 2018 and Stargate continues to succeed in today’s music, helping write and produce this single off Khalid’s album Free Spirit.
“Dancing With A Stranger” – Sam Smith & Normani
Last but not least, this song that we just cannot get out of our heads. Hermansen and Eriksen helped produced and write this hit. They also helped produce Smith’s song “Too Good at Goodbyes.”
Let us tell that these are only a fraction of the songs that they have produced. There’s a lot more hit they’ve made and it was just too much to put on this list. Could even make a part two for them?
But if you’re interested you can catch a full list of their production discography here.
What’s next for them? Well as a matter of fact, a promising young artist by the name of Elise Eriksen is looking to carry on their legacy make hits of her own. Does the name look familiar? That is because she is the daughter of Mikkel Eriksen. So they are in good hands.
But they’re not done working. They’re still making music today and topping the charts. They just breed success and we’re all for it!
What’s your favorite song by them? Let us know in the comments!
