On Saturday, May 4th, Jake Miller brought The Wait For You Tour to The Loving Touch in Ferndale, MI. At 7 o’clock that night, there was a long line of eager fans being let into the venue. Pop rock triplets Just Seconds Apart opened the show, beginning with a few lines of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’” to set the mood for their set. The band, made up of 19 year old siblings Sela, Ari, and Alex Poulos, were quite literally born just seconds apart. Songs in their set included their latest single “Indigo,” as well as “Unbelievable,” “Good to Know” and a cover of Post Malone’s “Better Now.” It was easy to tell how much they enjoyed performing, as they got the entire crowd dancing and warmed up for the rest of the night.
Pop singer Logan Henderson jumped on stage shortly after, much to the audience’s excitement. His smooth vocals during his performances both released and unreleased songs won everyone over immediately. A few songs in, Henderson made a comment about this show being his 4th or 5th day in a row and although he was tired, the buzz of the crowd was giving him the energy to put on a great show for them.
Fan favorite songs included “Bite My Tongue,” “End of the World,” and “Sleepwalker,” as well as unreleased song “Zodiac.” Between songs, he asked if anyone was missing out on anything else that night for the concert, because one girl said she had missed her prom. Another fan said it was her 22nd birthday, so Henderson had the entire venue sing “Happy Birthday” for her. He ended his set with a cover of Tove Lo’s “Talking Body,” mashing it into his own unreleased song “Body Talk.”
The nearly sold out crowd anxiously waited for the headliner to walk out, while singing along to various Jonas Brothers and Britney Spears songs playing between sets. Finally, Jake Miller and his band arrived on stage and jumped into the performance. From his latest EP BASED ON A TRUE STORY., he opened with “NIKES” and the fans instantly started dancing along. The true happiness that radiated from the crowd was incredible, and their energy was never lost throughout the entire set. From the fans all the way up front to those in the very back, people young and old, everyone had a smile on their face and couldn’t stop moving along to the beats. Miller found out about another fan’s 21st birthday and as everyone sang “Happy Birthday” again, he did a shot with the birthday girl.
Near the end of his set, yells throughout the audience were heard requesting performances of songs not originally on the setlist. Miller played along, and him and his band performed 10 second snippets of the songs “Hollywood,” “Permanent,” and “Beast Mode.” Right after, he stressed that the next two songs were very important to him and broke into performances of “I’m Alright” and “A Million Lives.” The crowd emanated pure emotion as they felt every word Miller sang, some even brought to tears. Other highlights of his set were songs “Dazed and Confused,” “Lion Heart,” and “Palm Blvd.” During the encore, he closed his set and the show with the tour’s namesake, “WAIT FOR YOU.” Jake Miller reflects the love and admiration his fans have for him and the atmosphere in the venue that night proved that.
