Maggie Rogers quickly became a popular indie-pop name with the release of her highly anticipated EP Now That The Light Is Fading in 2017. Only a year before, Rogers was studying at NYU Tisch and was able to attend a masterclass for music students hosted by Pharrell Williams. The video of her song “Alaska” went viral and she received contract offers from multiple record labels.
Rogers’ name and origin story recently went viral on TikTok as creators discussed the details of her upbringing.
Today, she is making music headlines after releasing two new singles from her upcoming second studio album Surrender. The first single, “That’s Where I Am”, came out on April 8.
As mentioned on the Genius lyric page for “That’s Where I Am”, Rogers stated that she made the song around the time of the 2020 Presidential Election, and wanted to create something hopeful. She also mentioned that the song was written in 10 minutes, and the production finished in only a few hours.
The second single, “Want Want”, was released June 1, accompanied by a lively music video featuring Maggie in a wig at a karaoke booth singing her heart out to to the song.
In Maggie’s words: “This song is about sex.” It features heavy guitar and strong vocals from the singer, as always – it’s the type of song to play at full volume when you need an energy boost. Rodgers gives 100% effort and the song remains at a high energy level for almost the entire three minutes.
Rogers first announced her upcoming album at the end of March, after teasing several snapshots of her album cover on Instagram.
Surrender is out July 29th and we cannot wait.
