It is not everyday that you get to see your local Hometown Hero in their element, but we got the opportunity to see Machine Gun Kelly put on the performance of a lifetime at First Energy Stadium in Cleveland, OH this past Saturday.
We started the day off strong with an announcement from the Mayor of Cleveland, Justin M. Bibb, naming August 13, 2022 as “Machine Gun Kelly Day”. We knew it could only go up from there!
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which is conveniently located next to the stadium, held a pre-show hang out event before the doors opened to the concert. You could grab some merch, hang out with other fans, and get yourself hyped up for the incredible show later on that night. Everyone dressed in their finest pink and black outfits to show support for Machine Gun Kelly. The city even changed the color on the Terminal Tower to show some love to the man.
There was not a dull moment the whole night as we got to watch a star-studded line up. From WILLOW and Avril Lavigne to Trippie Redd, the excitement was real! From 80 year olds to 8 year olds, everyone had a smile on their face as they prepped to see their favorite Clevelander.
Kelly’s set began with a funny video clip shown on the big screens as well as a giant helicopter flying around the stage. After a “countdown to destruction”, Machine Gun Kelly appeared hanging from a ladder hanging from that helicopter. In that moment, the sold out stadium went WILD! Avril Lavigne was brought out to the stage to perform their song, “Bois Lie”, together which had every person who grew up, wishing to live out their “Sk8r Boi” fantasies, going crazy.
Since it was Cleveland, Kelly made his way up to the 500s section to perform a bit of a medley of his older rap songs. How did he get down? Well, he zip-lined himself all the way down to the stage which began what should be the cities anthem at this point, “Till I Die”.
The set went on for almost three hours but there was never a dull moment. Machine Gun Kelly and his team gave it their all. From bringing blink-182 drummer, Travis Barker, out to perform some of their hit songs, to playing songs that any Clevelander would know, it truly was a night to remember. With incredible stage production and massive energy, the night of August 13, 2022 will be one we will never forget.
We are so excited to see what more Machine Gun Kelly has to offer in the future. Maybe he will be the first person to put on a concert on the moon! Until then, let us enjoy all the fun we have been given so far.
