At just 17 years old, Canadian singer-songwriter Johnny Orlando has taken the music industry by storm. Getting his start by covering such artists like Justin Bieber and Austin Mahone on Youtube has been the catalyst towards his career in music. He signed with Universal Music Group in May of 2018 at just 15 years old. Most recently, Orlando has released his highly anticipated new single, “Everybody Wants You.” This single is the first one released on his upcoming second EP that is slated to be released this fall.
“Everybody Wants You” demonstrates immense growth in Orlando both lyrically and as an artist. He cites this EP as a conversation on his current life situation. He said on his Twitter that the songs on his EP are an outlet that explains uncertainty over next steps in his life both academically and romantically. Fans have been obsessed with this new single as it already has close to 500,000 streams on Spotify.
In addition to the single itself, Orlando has released a music video. Directed by Alex Smith, this video showcases Orlando driving through a city lit up by vibrant nightlife. Orlando notes that while certain shots may appear not to have explicit meaning, they are actually a metaphor for clearing his mind while writing his music. Scenes in the video of him driving around are based on his personal self-reflection. Additionally, through the support of art animator Gabe Sapienza, the video features animated scenes that give the visuals an additional level of aesthetic appeal. What’s next for Johnny Orlando? He is giving his fans drive in concerts through Toronto’s OLG Playstage on Friday, September 25th. It is evident that his success is not reducing in momentum anytime soon as he is a top requested artist on MTV, has close to one million views on his music video and is preparing to release his sophomore EP this fall.
“Everybody Wants You” is available on all streaming platforms.
