Just about the only thing that can get us to stop scrolling Tiktok for hours on end (does time actually still mean anything in COVID-19?) is a compelling audio that stops us in our tracks and makes us jump over to Spotify to search for a full version. Tiktok can be a time suck, but it’s also giving artists a huge platform they may not have had before, thus giving us some of our new favorite acts. Here’s our Top 3 this week:
Arrows in Action: This rising “power pop” band from Gainesville, FL gives us major All Time Low vibes. Which is no surprise, as All Time Low’s Rian Dawson produced one of their tracks, according to the band’s Youtube Channel. Opening for bands like The 1975, We The Kings and Jimmy Eat World, we think Arrows in Action is certainly making a name for itself. Arrows in action currently has over 1 million global streams on Spotify, some of those certainly heading over from their growing presence on Tiktok. We love when this band goes live, it’s like attending a pre-pandemic intimate show except we can stay in our PJs.
Our favorite track so far: “This Time”
Peach PRC: Think Nintendo meets Myspace meets Lolita meets Disney meets Ritalin and you’ve got Peach PRC. We know, it doesn’t make sense to us either, but it works! Peach is an Australian artist who tells all on Tiktok, often calling out harmful stereotypes and making users feel less alone with her humorous take on her own life experiences and trauma. Her singles are upbeat, catchy and electronic (and LGBTQ+ positive!). Catch her on Instagram too for the occasional soulful acoustic tunes that tug at the heartstrings and are equally sad and beautiful.
Our Favorite track: “Blondes”
JESSIA: Vancouver native JESSIA connected with fans in January after posting a video of her in her car singing the chorus of a song she was working on. The song immediately blew up and went from concept to completion in just 72 hours, and is now taking over Spotify.
The song, “I’m not Pretty” is a body-positivity anthem and showcases JESSIA’s raw talents and soulful voice. It’s also super catchy, so be ready to be singing “I’ve got a belly and I’ve got a bum” on a loop. Trust us, it’s worth the weird looks in the grocery store.
Our favorite track: “I’m not Pretty”
