Get to know Betta Lemme, the European dance-pop singer, who is influenced by Abba, her talents in playing instruments and more.
1. Introduce yourself for our readers.
Hello kind stranger. My name is Betta Lemme. If you keep reading, you’ll get to know a little about me.
2. Describe your music for someone who may not have heard it before.
My music sounds like a glamorous Quentin Tarantino film had a baby with a glittery dance-pop singer in Europe.
3. What’s something our readers should know about you and your music?
Sometimes the songs are in English, French or Italian… and sometimes they’re in all 3.
4. You recently released your EP, Bambola, what was the recording process like for that?
It was the first time I wrote a song with complete strangers and at first, it felt like awkward speed dating… ”Hi. Nice to meet you. (Hi Scott Harris. Hi Rick Markowitz). Let’s write a song that’s super personal even though we don’t know each other yet.” Yet, there was a sense of beauty and closure in allowing myself to be vulnerable, showing them a piece of my diary and working together to come up with lyrics and a concept that was straight from the heart… That’s how the EP was born.
5. What was the inspiration for the lead single?
Being able to take control of a situation and saying ‘NEXT.’
6. Who are your musical influences?
Queen, Abba, Dalida, Bowie, The Spice Girls… If you’re still reading this, skip to question 8.
7. You’ve already gotten attention from some of the most notable publications in the music industry, what’s your next goal in 2019.
Great Question. Perhaps the goal for 2019 is glittery world domination filled with hopes and dreams to try and make a reality.
8. If you could plan your dream tour, who would be on it and why?
OH. EM. GEE. Here’s the list:
Missy Elliott (Because, LEGEND)
CHER (Because, LEGEND)
Lady Gaga (DUH. LEGEND)
Troye Sivan (Same. Legend.)
Why? This would be the ultimate empowering dance party with just enough room for the hands in air, cathartic pop ballad…. (That turns into a dance party cause let’s be honest…Who doesn’t want that?)
9. You taught yourself to play seven instruments, what was that process like? What’s your favorite?
That is true. I like to rent an instrument I’ve never played for a couple days and give it a try! When I first moved to NYC, I rented a saxophone and brought it to my rooftop. I was hoping the moody rooftop scene would help me sound like the intro of George Michael’s ‘I’m Never Gonna Dance Again,’ but instead, my playing sounded like a group of cats being boiled alive. My favorite and main instrument is piano, however there are so many instruments I haven’t played and am eager to try.
10. What’s something you do to relax, unwind or de-stress?
Real talk: I put on some old school Eurodance or Abba, make some violently spicy ramen (Particularly the Hek Buldak Extra Spicy Ramen with an 8,000 Scoville heat unit) and watch mindless television for 30 minutes, in hopes of forgetting about the problems and injustices in the world.
