We caught up with Bryce Vine at the Detroit stop of his Night Circus tour. Bryce who was born in New York City, and raised in Los Angeles, said his music style is what would happen if Blink-182, Kid Cudi and Outkast went to a jam session drunk. When searching for his sound, Bryce said it took him all of his life up until 3 years ago when he put out his first EP. He described it as “great” but he knew he still wanted to evolve his sound. Growing up on a lot of different kinds of music influenced the different things he wanted to create with his music. With any given chance, he loves incorporating those sounds into his music.
Jumping into writing, Bryce had a lot of influence from the band Third Eye Blind. At the age of 13, Vine fell in love with the band when he heard them on the radio, in a recent interview Bryce said “the writing of their songs was just so unique to me, I really grabbed ahold of the words. It made me want to write in a very unique way and be honest in my lyrics, so I always kept practicing that.” Bryce is also influenced by Kid Cudi, Tupac, and Outkast and Blink 182 as well. Along the years he has added to his collection of people he is influenced by but those have stuck with him throughout the years. “Those people are where it all stems from,” said Bryce.
When considering music as a career, Bryce said “it just kind of happened.”
“I was sitting on my couch, watching someone play guitar on TV and I said ‘I wanna be able to do that.’ I didn’t know what I was going to do with it or how it was going to affect my life but I knew I wanted to have that option to do that kind of thing.”
Bryce started the process of teaching himself to play guitar, and would practice different songs in his garage. He then started a pop punk band in high school and through that got introduced to new music, like Motion City Soundtrack and New Found Glory. “I became a total warped tour kid after that.”
When he was studying at Berklee College of Music he met his DJ Skizz Marquee, and took all his influences and the different music he grew up listening to and started to brand his sound. When it comes to recording music, Bryce said he has no set process, he either builds beats on his own by himself like he did with his song “Glamaroma.” He tends to write his songs all in one day, goes to the studio, gives his producer the idea that he has, it gets cleaned up and edited, or he has beats made for him but has no lyrics for it so it will be set aside until he finds the perfect lyrics for the right beats. “Minutes or months, that’s how long it takes, I never know.”
We asked Bryce if he enjoys the same music style as the style he creates, and his answer was simply “I don’t know, because I don’t know a lot of artists with the same style, what I wanted to do was makes songs that if people heard they would say ‘okay well that has to be Bryce Vine’ because of the way my music sounds. Of course there are people that influenced me that sound like some of my songs, so with that respect, yes, I do listen to people that sound like me because that’s where I am getting me from. So yeah my music always sounds like a mix of all the people I listen too.”
Having a collaboration with any artist dead or alive, Bryce said his list is really big, but also said it would be really cool to have Michael Jackson to sing a hook. “That would be pretty tight, I wish I could do that.” If he could collaborate with someone alive he would prefer it to be Aaron Bruno from AWOLNATION because of his unique voice.

When asked what his dream venue to perform at is, Bryce responded with “Madison Square Garden.”
Bryce recently released an album “Night Circus.” We asked him about the album and if it had any meaning behind it, he replied with “I wrote Night Circus in a different state of mind for most of the songs, so it’s like “Lazy Fair” is that daytime driving album and “Night Circus” is more of the night time driving album. It is a little vibeyer and some of the subject matter is a little darker, it has a lot of different shifts and sounds, like I don’t know any other artist that would put a song like Los Angeles on the same album as Bang Bang or Street Punks on a Freight Train or Private school all on one thing. Which is always what I wanted to do. It is a mix of a lot of stuff but I still wanted to go with the theme that it should be fun, like Lazy Fair and then Night Circus. So that’s why I called it that.”
In 10 years Bryce hopes to see himself on break from an international tour with every show sold out.
Bryce also teased us with some exciting news unfortunately he couldn’t share it yet, “they will know I have something exciting happening in August, it is going to be fun, it’s awesome!” Also in the summer of 2016 before August Bryce also said he is going to try and release a couple songs before this awesome thing happens!
We loved sitting down and chatting with Bryce, all in all he is a very humble guy who uses his past to create music everyone can enjoy.
