Just days before her performance at the 60th annual Grammy awards, Lady Gaga has released a piano version of the title track from her 2016 album Joanne, along with an accompanying music video. The video opens with a statement: “Joanne was my father’s sister who died at the age of 19 from the auto-immune disease lupus. My father was only 15 when she passed away”. The words then fade away, and Gaga appears in rose colored glasses, singing the song’s sentimental lyrics. This new piano version of the track lets Gaga’s silky and angelic vocals shine even more than before, making the emotional impact even more striking and powerful. The video ends with a tribute: “Joanne Stefani Germanotta. 03.12.55 – 12.18.74”. Gaga also tweeted that she would be making a donation to The Lupus Research Alliance in Joanne’s name.
