Dallas singer-songwriter Kinsley August released his newest single “Journey of Love” on Friday with his music video that also dropped. Mixing sultry vocal melodies and waves of modulated synthesizers with a touch of psychedelic rock meets dreamy pop meets alternative influences, he created an unforgettable sound to lift up listeners and remind them of what is truly important.
“Love is what matters most. When all is stripped away, when all our days have passed, it will be the love we gave that will matter. “
Inspired by human experience and the connectivity of us all, he wrote the song after an anxiety-filled, sleepless night. He found that he does his best writing late night when most vulnerable, unfiltered, and reflective.
“I was up late swimming through all of these overwhelming thoughts, dog paddling my way through unhealthy waters, when I sat down at my synthesizer and began to calm my mind” August said. “It’s in those moments of self doubt and worry that you must stop. Breathe in deep and remember to give yourself the love and kindness you deserve. Writing music is how I am able to heal and better understand my life; work through forgiveness and self growth.”
“Journey of Love” was inspired by his daily struggles with anxiety like that restless night. In a Q&A with Beyond The Stage (BTS), he shared that the song was written for people carrying a feeling of heaviness and haunted by the passing of time:
“I hope to inspire a positive, healing, and reflective experience for my listener. I hope to reach out and speak to others through an honest sound. To awaken the lost in anxious thought. To inspire others to find healing by creating their own music.”
August first dove into his musical journey in a community theatre in Plano, Texas when he was just a child. There, he joined an acting troupe and tour throughout his home state where he got to sing, dance, and act for many years. His experience in and passion for performing along with the many hours and days spent in local bands with his closest friends, ultimately lead him to pursuing a full-time career in songwriting.
He already has twenty eight songs released, national radio play, and local nominations, proving the potential of his musical career knows no bounds. In fact, August shared with BTS that he already has a few songs in his back catalog to be released later in the year. He also has some solo albums written and ready to be produced, but he wants to focus on filming more and enhancing his live show experience. Regarding what else is coming next, including work with a band, he said:
“I do have a full length album on the way with my other band, Land Mammal. The name of the record is called, ‘Slow Your Mind’, and will be released in September. Otherwise, just day by day, moment to moment, one breath to the next, just living here and now.”
With that being said, make sure to keep August on your radar because he is bound to blow up, and we all know there is nothing like knowing an artist before they make it big.
