thru these tears – LANY
Being super perfectly honest, I’ve never been through a breakup. I’ve had friendships split up, I’ve left jobs, gotten into fights with family members, you get the picture. But I’ve never been through the real thing. LANY’s most recent release, which actually came out a few days is the first song that’s really made me feel like I know what emotions are carried with a breakup. I’ve had it on repeat for probably too long and I don’t see myself taking it off of repeat any time soon. With relatable lyrics and a catchy beat, LANY won’t be stopped any time soon. – Addie Whelan, Editor In Chief
In My Feelings- Drake
This song is so catchy and really just makes you want to have it on repeat. Drake really has done it again with creating a song that gets stuck in your head and makes you want to dance. – Alicia Rangel, Art Director
Still New York (ft. Joey Bada$$) – MAX
I’ve been a big fan of MAX for a long time, and so when he started releasing music off his upcoming sophomore record, I was naturally very excited. This song has a ringing sense of nostalgia to it, making it perfect for drives through the summer heat. While the contents of the song are geared towards living in New York City, the overall idea of the love and nostalgia for the place you call / once called home is something that everyone can relate to. – Gina Scarpino, Photo Editor
Bad Girls Don’t Cry – The Night Game
I chose this song because it’s just a fun song. When I was younger, Boys Like Girls was one of my favorite bands, so to see Martin Johnson release new music under this band is awesome! I really enjoy the direction the music is going in. You can tell Martin Johnson takes his influences and creates a sound that is his own and he’s really proud of. Even if you weren’t a Boys Like Girls fan, I think it’s everyone should check out the music he’s put out so far! – Delaney DeAngelis, Deputy Editor
Bad (Demo) – Lennon Stella
I don’t think I’ve ever loved a demo as much as I love this one. I—and many others—have been waiting for Lennon Stella to release her own music for a while now and it’s finally happening. She owns one of my favorite voices in all of music with her airy, effortless tone. If “Bad” is any indication of what we can expect from Lennon in the future, she has me as a lifelong fan already. – Kristen Humphries, Content Assistant
Dirty Secrets- New City
I absolutely love this song. From the very moment I heard it until now. The catchy lyrics and eccentric beats had me hooked from the very start. The song is just really good and as always its a song I highly relate too. I find it easy to enjoy songs I relate to vs songs that are irrelevant to anything in my life. I saw this song live and it made me love it even more. I think what I like most is the fact that it sounded exactly the same live as it did recorded. Like you can tell there wasn’t any auto tune added. It was just that good. – Sam Aneed, Contributing Writer
Psycho – Amy Shark featuring Mark Hoppus
In 2017 I double booked myself and shot a show the same night after driving out an hour to go cover Warped Tour. After shooting the festival all day I drove from Salem back to Portland, Oregon, to cover a show at the Doug Fir Lounge (about a 300 cap venue for non-Portlanders). I was exhausted, but blown away by the artist on stage performing solo. It was Amy Shark. Now with her debut album out in July, and seeing her perform larger venues internationally and now with a band to back her, it’s incredible. To witness firsthand an artist’s growth and journey is indescribable, and even though you might not be close to them you feel like a proud parent. Also I used to run a Blink-182 fan blog on tumblr so when this song came out it spoke to me for so many reasons. – Joe Hernandez, Contributing Photographer and Writer
Born to be Yours – Imagine Dragons, Kygo
I’m normally not a huge fan of EDM, but I’ve had this track on repeat ever since it came out last month. The collaboration is just so seamless – Kygo gives it a bouncy electronic feel, while Imagine Dragons doesn’t drift too far away from their pop-rock roots. Even though it’s an upbeat song, the lyrics are so heartfelt as they reflect on being in a relationship and feeling like it’s really meant to be. This is just such a feel-good song and I cannot get over how the sounds blend together so tastefully. – Abby Fox, Senior Contributing Writer
No Excuses – Meghan Trainor
This song is fun to listen to and the perfect song to dance to too. After hearing this song, I can’t wait to hear the rest of Megan’s new album. – Bailey Flores, Contributing Photographer
Body – Loud Luxury (feat. brando)
This EDM track is just begging to be added to a summer playlist. Catchy hooks, infectious lyrics and the dance-y beat got me hooked from the first listen and I’ve been obsessed with it ever since! – Lauren Klonowski, Senior Contributing Writer
Thrills – Donna Missal
I’ve been listening to this song every single day since I found it. Donna’s voice is raw and chalk full of gritty emotion. I feel her words. She also just so happens to be out on tour opening for King Princess. Her live vocals are incredible – people were in tears during a local backyard performance she had in Seattle. Definitely check her music out! – Nicolita Bradley, Contributing Photographer
Fever – The Hunna
I’ve been waiting for The Hunna’s sophomore album since they released their first and after hearing the singles they put out between I was really excited to hear it all. The entire album is as incredible as I expected it to be but this song has been one I’ve caught myself repeating. – Marissa Sandoval, Contributing Photographer
Die For The Hype – YUNGBLUD
I recently started getting super into YUNGBLUD’s music after a friend had seen him at Warped Tour and told me to check him out. I fell in love. I spent a whole two weeks, only listening to the few singles he had put out while I was traveling the east coast of the US. When the new album dropped, I freaked out. He is not afraid to speak what he truly believes into the world through his music and I really love that. The song, “Die For The Hype”, just puts me in a good mood whenever I listen to it (and usually it is on repeat for at least 30 minutes). I would definitely check out YUNGBLUD’s newest album. – Chelsea Gresh, Contributing Photographer
Not a Love Song – bülow
I was recently driving back from the beach my friend played this song in the car. Upon first listen, I immediately fell in love. The crunchy, warbling synths in the chorus, paired with the lush vocals from German songstress bülow, is a match made in heaven and I can’t get enough. – Blake Charles, Contributing Writer and Photographer
sponsor me tape – Mom Jeans
This song is a song off of Mom Jean’s brand new album and I have not been able to stop listening! Mom Jeans are a smaller band out of Oakland, California along the lines of Modern Baseball and Sorority Noise. I would definitely recommend listening to this song to get a taste of what Mom Jeans sounds like. – Alyssa Buzzello, Senior Contributing Photographer
Cut Your Bangs – Girlpool
Girlpool absolutely stole my musical heart over the past few months. This song, along with 123 have been my favorite songs recently and I can’t stop listening to them! – Stone Fenk, Contributing Photographer
