Multi-instrumentalist JULESTHEWULF dropped his debut solo project SEEYOUTHERE! last month, making the transition from touring musician to solo artist. Born Julian Michael, JULESTHEWULF, came from the 1994 iconic crime film Pulp Fiction after identifying with character The Wolf. A member of We The Band, the group most known for touring and performing with Justin Bieber, JULES now has his own EP fully written, composed, produced, and engineered by himself.
A self-taught musician from a young age, the Alabama native started to take playing the guitar more seriously at 14, constantly wanting to improve in any way. Throughout highschool JULES continued to play, even playing in wedding bands throughout college to help pay for tuition. After touring with Musiq Soulchild for about 10 months, JULES later got the opportunity of a lifetime to play for Bieber on his worldwide Purpose Tour and has been with him since. Halfway through tour, he started taking an interest in producing and later singing, writing and the whole process of being an artist as he says “I’m just falling more in love with the whole process of being a full-fledged artist instead of just a guitarist or producer,” JULES continues saying “I’m finding my way as an artist and writer.”
Inspired by musicians and artists from all genres including Prince, John Mayer, Jimi Hendrix, Kanye West and Travis Scott. Creating his EP at the height of covid proved to be difficult with lockdowns and depression constantly lurking, the overall passion to complete the project is what drove him, expressing “It’s one of those things where you either do it or you don’t and I don’t think I could live with myself if I didn’t finish what I started.”
Over a year in the making, this EP is obviously very guitar-driven with a unique blend of R&B, hip-hop and trap. “The Kids Are Alright” was the single that inspired the project and was what he wanted to build off of for the remainder of the process. The 9-track EP can be seen as a narrative of moments from JULES life and a reflection of relationships from the past and present, uncovering the emotions that come along such as trust, disappointment, love and loss. “Overall it’s a somewhat of a love story from the perspective of being tired of doing the same thing, going in the same cycle.” Newly signed with Warner Music Group, the now Atlanta-based artist should be one you add to your radar. This debut projectis one that relates to so many, in such a difficult time in the world. With the talent and creative defiance that easily radiates from his soul, JULESTHEWULF is definitely trap and R&B’s next big thing.
