Today, L.A.-based pop artist Jessy released her new single “Lovesick,” an upbeat and anti-love song about the craziness of the dating world. You can listen to “Lovesick” on all music streaming platforms here.
“I wrote this a long while back when I was really fed up with the dating scene,” said Jessy. “I was sick of being ghosted, hearing some of the dumbest pickup lines, and ultimately getting my time wasted. I was over it and didn’t want to go on another rollercoaster just to end up more bitter than before.”
With the inspiration for the song coming from the chaos that love brings, Jessy used her creativity and love for vintage items to design her single cover. From designing her own fake cake out of spackle to finding a Victorian bench off Facebook marketplace, each aspect of the shoot played a crucial role in what the song is about and who Jessy is as an artist.
“The song feels reminiscent of being sick from too many sweets. The heart-shaped cake represents love, as sweet as it can be, it can also make you feel sick,” she said.
Since her last chat with Beyond The Stage almost two years ago on her “Lie” music video, Jessy describes her growth as an artist and as a person as liberating and prefers to spend less time thinking and more time doing. Changing her mindset and outlook on her artistry has allowed Jessy to feel more in tune with her sound in the best way possible.
When listening to the new song, Jessy hopes her listeners can empathize and learn to dance out their frustration with the dating game.
“Nothing lasts forever, no bad feelings are permanent, and if my music can help you get through it a little faster then I am over the moon,” Jessy said. “Music is magical in that way, I love how it can take you out of a feeling and dive you into another. I love the idea of giving that to others!”
