Jeffrey Miller, only 16, is on the start of something big as he reaches above and beyond the walls of Vine, the social media website that launched him onto the path of national attention. He’s gained National attention that has attracted over over three million followers and five million vine loops. He could be compared to Justin Bieber or an early Justin Timberlake.
Jersey born and Boston bred and on the path for something bigger is what makes Miller shine. He knows where he comes from, and that’s something he doesn’t want to lose sight of. With a dream in his heart and the focus to succeed, Miller is making sure he’s here to stay. It all starts with the rising stars new EP Rise that will be released this Friday, October 14 and a new music video for his lead single ‘Live For the Night’.
Beyond the Stage had the chance to get to know the rising star as he prepares to release his debut EP. Read what he had to say below, and make sure to check out his music video for ‘Live For the Night’’.
Beyond the Stage: How has your upbringing shaped you and your love for music?
Jeffrey Miller: I grew up in a small town called Norfolk, Massachusetts. I always loved to sing in my house and write music, and I have always dreamed of being a rockstar but I never was encouraged to sing in front of anyone until I was in 5th grade.
BTS: When did you start making videos on Vine?
JM: I was 13 years old, and I just wanted to get my voice out there because I loved to sing. I never expected anyone to see the videos or reach that many people.
BTS: You’re reaching far above the walls of Vine now, so how have you been taking the success day-to-day?
JM: It’s great. I love doing what I do, and it’s an awesome feeling that I’m being appreciated with what I do. I want to continue to make music and reach a bigger audience, so it’s an awesome feeling and I’m excited for the future.
BTS: What are your biggest musical influences?
JM: I take inspiration from a lot of artists. A big one is Justin Timberlake and Ed Sheeran. I really admire Justin Timberlake. I would love to go in the direction of what he’s doing with his career.
BTS: With pop music being in the forefront, how do you approach songwriting?
JM: I’m still learning and growing, and I think this past year of being in the studio with tons of talented people has taught me so much. But, I guess I really try to focus on what’s from the heart, honest and whatever I am feeling. I’ve loved what I’ve created so far, but I wouldn’t necessarily put a genre on it. It’s all about where the song is coming from and the feeling of it in that moment.
BTS: You have a new EP ‘Rise’ coming out. Can you tell us a little about that?
JM: The EP is called ‘Rise’ and I’m really excited about it. All of the songs are coming from a place of where I’m at in life. I’m still young and I’m growing up. Every song specifically focuses on the message of rising up, and not letting people tear you down. I’ve been working on the EP for about a year now, and all of the songs mean so much to me. I’m proud of what it’s become, and I truly hope that my audience enjoys what they hear.
BTS: What is your favorite track on the EP?
JM: ‘Higher’ is my favorite track. It’s where I’m at in my life right now, and it’s a big thing for me to think positive and to believe in myself. I hope fans can relate to it as much as I do.
BTS: “Live For the Night’ is your latest single. What’s the inspiration behind the song?
JM: I love this song, and I think it’s a fun dance song. Being a kid and having fun and enjoying life is an important thing. The song, I think really means something to people. It’s a song about being in the moment in a time where everyone is always on their phones, and it’s good to put that stuff down and to enjoy life.
BTS: The music video looks like it was a lot of fun to make. What was that experience like?
JM: Making the video was a blast. I got together with 10 of my friends. We shot it really late at night at a school. Everyone was having a really great time while shooting it.
BTS: What is next for you?
JM: Definitely continuing to make music and create. I would love to put out an album, but I really want to focus on the EP right now. Eventually, I would love to tour though. That is a big dream of mine.
