Jade Bird dropped her latest single “Headstart” last week on November 4 on Glassnote Records. The song precedes a full album release coming in 2021. Released just a day after the United States’s Election Day, Bird shared why she carried on with that date.

The UK artist moved to Nashville earlier in 2020 to record the upcoming album with Dave Cobb, six-time Grammy Award winning producer. Earlier in the year she also traveled to New York, which led to the new song.
“‘Headstart’ came out of a trip I made to upstate New York at the beginning of the year,” Bird shared. “Being there, I was immediately taken back to the magic and inspiration of creating the first album . It’s quite a light-hearted song, about liking someone who just can’t see the signs, but more than that releasing it feels like a way to give a bit of joy to the end of the year. It feels like community to me, and it makes me want to sing again.”
Listen to “Headstart” below.
The song is the first new music from Bird since her well-received self-titled debut album from 2019. The album went to number one on AAA radio and led to her performing on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
Over the last 2 years, she has been welcomed into a community of songwriters and artists, like Sheryl Crow and Brandi Carlile who have both keep the British voice alive in American music. The three of them performed Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5” with Parton herself, Linda Perry, Maggie Rogers, Natalie Hemby, Maren Morris, and Amanda Shires at the Newport Folk Festival last year.

Bird’s “Headstart” cover was the playlist cover for Spotify’s “The Indie List,” which she shared to twitter on November 6.
