We are ecstatic to announce the release of the eclectic debut EP for the brilliant hip hop/RnB artist, Dirtsa. Originally from Douala, Cameroon and now residing in France, Dirtsa embodies everything that it means to be a genuine artist. The gifted and creative musician pulls much of her inspiration from her roots in writing poetry and even invests time in painting. The craft of writing poetry has enabled Dirtsa to translate well into the songwriting realm, where she has turned her songs into captivating allegories of her life experiences.
The release of Dirtsa’s six-track EP, Aletheia’s Calling, expresses nothing short of a collection of enthralling rhythmic stories filled with personal vulnerability, hardship, and aspirations. AlethEia, the entity behind this EP name, is the Greek goddess of truth, justice, and honesty, and Dirtsa channels this diety’s energy through her work on this project.
Combining an incredibly diverse set of sounds, Dirtsa incorporates elements of smooth RnB beats, intricate Spanish sounding guitar loops, and even elements of UK drill on her track “Questions”. Dirtsa describes the genesis of her EP below:
“Aletheia’s Calling is about finding your truth and fighting for the things you believe in. I crafted this project for a year and a half between France, Spain and Germany, and it has allowed me to discover myself in ways I would have never imagined.”
Each song on the album embraces an entirely unique sound separate from the rest of the EP, however, Dirtsa’s commanding vocals and impactful lyrics are present on each track and create unity on this diverse piece. She describes her focus track “Leon” as “an allegory and letter to my family and the things we’ve been through together.” Riding on a smooth, rhythmic backbeat, Dirtsa bares her soul and compelling voice on this track about her family.
Another sensational track on the EP is “Give It Right Back”. Leaving the listener with silky smooth vocals and a melodic backbeat, Dirtsa lures you into the sensual nature of this track. On the complete opposite end of the EP, for the track “Questions” she absolutely lights it up as a female artist taking on the more aggressive nature of drill beats. The song perfectly encapsulates the essence of drill, and for fans of famous drill artists like Pop Smoke, her dynamic backbeat and energetic rapping hit every mark.
Despite her diverse sound, Dirtsa pours into every track a duty to storytelling and remembrance to not only her ancestors, but also to those who are and continue to fight for racial injustice across the world. Following her success in taking first place at Pernod Ricard Music Competition, Aletheia’s Calling marks a monumental step in her journey to becoming an even more developed and influential artist.
