Although so young in her career, London-native YAZ is making immense strides in the music industry, advancing herself day by day and making a name for herself that should surely be remembered.
BTS: How did you get your start in music?
YAZ: “I have been singing for as long as I can remember and started writing music when I was around 13 years old. Eventually, when I was comfortable with my writing and my voice, I posted a demo on SoundCloud and my journey started from there.”
BTS: What is your favorite song you’ve ever written?
YAZ: “I can’t name just one! All I can say is that they’re not out yet :).”
BTS: Who would your dream collab be with?
YAZ: “There are so many artists I’d love to work with, but my dream collab would have to be with Ariana Grande.”
BTS: Who was your first concert?
YAZ: “My first concert that I remember was Ariana Grande. I’m sure my parents took me to other concerts when I was younger though.”
BTS: You just released your new song “Anymore.” What does this song mean to you?
YAZ: “‘Anymore’ is very special to me because it’s one of the first pieces of music I’m sharing with the world. The visuals perfectly capture what I had imagined too and so I hope anybody listening/watching truly enjoys it and goes back to the song for a good time.”
BTS: What do you want people to know about “Anymore” before and after they listen to it?
YAZ: “‘Anymore’ is about missing an old friend but also remembering why they’re not in your life anymore. The upbeat tempo and melody kind of mask what I’m really talking about, so I hope people can connect to both the meaning and feeling of ‘Anymore.'”
BTS: How does “Anymore” compare to your successful debut single “Mr Valentine?”
YAZ: “I think ‘Anymore’ follows ‘Mr Valentine’ really nicely. It has a similar sound but is more spacey and a little more RnB direction. I love both songs and can’t wait to share more.”
BTS: “Anymore” was also accompanied by a corresponding music video. What was it like to be apart of that?
YAZ: “The video for ‘Anymore’ was so fun to make. I was with the director (Jakub Bilicki) every step of the way from planning to editing, and I think it’s exactly what we had envisioned. Also getting to work with my friends on set made it even better.”
BTS: You are so young in your career – Any big dreams for the future?
YAZ: “I’m excited to make more and more music and hopefully go on tour one day!!”
YAZ’s passion for her music and work is evident from start to finish. There is so much opportunity ahead of her and we cannot wait to see where she goes in the future. We know that we’ll definitely be standing by to see it happen.
