Trevor Daniel is back in the music scene, better and more sure of himself than ever. We interviewed the kind artist on his successful journey this far.
BTS: What inspired your latest single “Karma”?
Daniel: “Karma” was inspired by the idea of finally just deciding to trust my gut and do what I want. I’ve spent too much time just listening to other people and their opinions. Doing that wears you down at a certain point. There were also a lot of people hating behind my back – saying I was a one hit wonder, etc. But I like to think of this as a little intro into my comeback.
BTS: What was the process like for creating this song?
Daniel: I was actually visiting Stockholm, Sweden because I was doing a show there and then I was going to go to Italy, but around that time Italy had gotten hit hard with COVID so they stopped letting people visit. So, I stayed in Sweden and met up with the homies there and we made “Karma.” It was a super fun session! That was also the day I stopped vaping, which is a fun fact that isn’t really relevant, but it’s cool to know that it’s almost been a year.
BTS: How would you describe your sound, overall?
Daniel: If I were to describe my sound overall, I would have to say it’s ever-changing. I started off singing really roughly structured pop songs over guitar and trap drums because I liked it, and I still do, but now I’m experimenting with other sounds and trying to push myself to be better every day. I really want to make some songs that people can dance to because when I do shows I can tell those are needed haha. But no matter what genre I decide to mix into my sound, you can always bet on me focusing heavily on melody, fat drums, and a picture painted as clear as possible.
BTS: How has your childhood/ life influenced your music this far?
Daniel: I think my childhood and life influenced my music a ton. I grew up listening to pretty much everything I could get my hands on. I listened to a bunch of punk rock in middle school and a bunch of melodic trance I guess you would call it, and of course hip-hop music is very influential to me. There’s just so many genres that I like that start to blend together at a certain point. My life is definitely an inspiration because it helps me write songs and I’m a people watcher so there’s a ton of inspiration there.
BTS: What are some of your favorite collaborations?
Daniel: My favorite collaborations that I’ve done are pretty much all of the ones that I’ve put out. I’m pretty picky about what songs I try to join in on or who I’ll collaborate with because I just want it to be really natural. I’ve done other songs that felt a little more forced but ultimately, we never put them out and I’m cool with that.
BTS: We have to ask, what was it like working on the SpongeBob Movie Soundtrack?
Daniel: That was a dream come true that I didn’t realize was a dream I had until they asked me to do it! And it was really sick that it was a flip on “F Is For Friends.”
BTS: What can we expect from you next?
Daniel: You can expect the unexpected. I hope that doesn’t sound corny, but I’ve definitely been learning a lot in my downtime and trying a lot of different things. I’ve mostly learned a lot about myself, and I realize that I haven’t been taking as many chances as I would like. I feel like in the past I’ve maybe played it safe. I feel like it’s hard to look back and think about what I wish I would’ve done differently. But definitely some exciting sounds. My goal is to make it feel like a movie when you listen to this next batch of music.
BTS: What are you most excited for in the future?
Daniel: I’m most excited to release my next album along with all of the artwork and visuals around it because I really do feel like I haven’t been able to tell my story properly until now. I’m excited to fill all of the missing gaps and answer the questions that people might have about me. Because if I was a fan up until this point, I would have a lot of questions. But I think I’ll be able to answer those now.
BTS: What final message do you want to send to your fans and listeners?
Daniel: Sad now doesn’t mean sad forever. I love you! Thank you for everything ❤️
We are very excited to see what Daniel comes up with next, and get all our questions answered!
