UK-based singer-songwriter Tim Gallagher dropped his single “Just Friends” last month and we are getting major Ed Sheeran nostalgia from him. The elegantly soulful singer took time to talk about the single and what is next for him.
Beyond The Stage: How are you doing during these crazy and difficult times?
Tim Gallagher: On a personal level it’s been very difficult, but professionally i’ve stayed super productive. I like to think i’ve made the most of the time we’ve all been afforded, which has left me with more music than I know what to do with!!
BTS: How did you get into music? Did you always know you wanted to pursue music?
TG: It felt like a very natural process. Both sides of my family are musical and mum + dad have both at some point in their careers played music professionally. I’ll be honest, I can’t ever remember not wanting to pursue a career in music.
BTS: What was the process like writing “Just Friends”?
TG: Similar to most of my songs. Lock myself away, play some chords on loop and don’t let myself out of the room until I have a song!
BTS: What inspired the song?
TG: It was inspired by a past relationship, where the lines between a physical relationship and friendship were blurred. It’s a weird place to be. There was a bit of a love triangle thing going on too, wouldn’t recommend.
BTS: Do you plan on filming an at-home music video?
TG: I have plans for a ton of visual content towards the tail end of the year. They won’t be at home, I have a few places in mind. One’s an old swimming baths! We’ll see if they’ll let us film in the venue… I’ll still be doing my Instagram live streams from home though!
BTS: Do you plan on releasing any more music this year?
TG: Only another 14 songs haha! I’m running a project at the moment where i’m releasing a new single on the first Friday of every month, until December 2021, with two 12 track acoustic albums released in both Decembers! It’s been an absolute slog for the last 12 months gathering all this music and I’m still not finished, but I’m so excited to release it all.
