Get to know The King’s Parade, an alt-soul band from York, England made up of Sam Rooney, Olly Corpe, Christ Brent and Tom English. They told BTS the history of the group, their latest music and what they’re up to next. Check it out below!
1. Can you introduce yourself to those who may not know you?
The King’s Parade: Hey! We’re The King’s Parade. An Alt/Soul band from London made up of Sam (Keys), Chris (Drums), Tom (Bass) and me (Olly – Vocals/Guitar).
2. How did the band name come about?
TKP: When we first started out playing together Chris used to be the main person in charge of organising rehearsals. We were all students so needless to say we were pretty relaxed on the whole timekeeping side of things but it was Chris that kept us in line and made sure we were all at the right place at the right time. We nicknamed him the King and we were his minions. So, when we needed to come up with a band name The King’s Parade seemed quite fitting.
3. How would you describe your music to people who have never heard it before?
TKP: We go with Alt-Soul. Think soulful vocals with a rock/indie flare.
4. Who are your biggest musical influences?
TKP: In no particular order, Black Keys, Alabama Shakes, Half Moon run, Michael Kiwanuka, Lianne La Havas…
5. What was the best part of releasing your current single, “The Look”?
TKP: We’ve had such a positive response from the release of our latest single it’s been amazing. Shooting the video for “The Look” was a lot of fun and was certainly up there. We’re playing an EP release show on June 14th so the highlight will be seeing everyone singing along in the chorus.
6. What is your dream collaboration?
TKP:We’d love to play with Brittany Howard from Alabama Shakes. One of our unreleased tracks ‘Alright for you’ would sound incredible with Brittany and Olly on vocals!
7. Do you have a favorite pre-show song/genre to get you pumped up for your performances?
TKP: No, we’re usually found having a beer and a chat together before the all important pre-gig huddle.
8. Touring or recording?
TKP: Touring! We’re a live band and all we want to do is perform. It’s such a buzz to feed off the energy of the audience every night, you can’t beat it.
9. What is a song you wish you wrote?
TKP: Grace by Jeff Buckley.
10. What’s next on the agenda for the band?
TKP: It’s festival season now so the summer is pretty busy. At the end of September we’ll be heading to Germany to tour for a couple of weeks and then we’ll be playing in Spain in November. Between all that we’ll be laying down some new singles in the studio.
